Dr. Roberto Pascual studied at the University of Buenos Aires and the Balseiro Institute of Physics in Argentina obtaining a Ph. D. in Physics in 1968, specializing in Physical Metallurgy.
Dr. Pascual did Postdoctoral work at the Physics Division of the National Research Council of Canada, in Ottawa. He then returned to Argentina where he became an Associate Professor at the Balseiro Institute and Head of the Metal Physics Division at the Bariloche Atomic Centre, National Commission for Atomic Energy. During this period he worked on several areas of research in materials science, including mechanical properties of materials and martensitic transformations. He was responsible for introducing acoustic emission technology to the region.
Dr. Pascual spent another period at the NRC in Ottawa between 1977 and 1980, specializing in the fatigue behaviour of materials and in transmission electron microscopy, afterwards becoming full professor at the Military Institute of Engineering in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He continued his research in materials science and became involved in consulting activities for metallurgical and insurance companies.
In 1988, he joined the Metallurgical Engineering Department at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario as a full professor, becoming involved in several projects related to the mechanical properties of materials and also thin film technology and characterization.
In 1994 Dr. Pascual was appointed as senior advisor to the board of directors of the Atomic Energy Commission in Argentina, a position he maintained until 2000, when he became a partner in a high-tech spin-off company specializing in nuclear engineering related installations and products. During this period he was also active as a consultant for several companies in Argentina, Canada, the U.S. and Brazil, extending his activities to the areas of technology transfer, technology evaluation and forecast and marketing assistance.
Dr. Pascual is a registered Professional Engineer in the province of Alberta.
